How AI Is Changing Private Security

Humans Were Never Designed to Watch 100 Cameras
Imagine sitting in front of dozens of CCTV feeds for twelve hours.
Most screens show nothing unusual.
Then something important happens on one of them for five seconds.
Did you see it?
That is one of the problems AI is beginning to address in private security.

AI's Real Value Is Attention
The most useful role of AI isn't replacing the control-room operator.
It's helping determine:
"Which screen should the operator be looking at right now?"
Depending on the technology, video analytics can identify events such as intrusion, loitering, unusual movement, perimeter activity or certain objects and vehicles.
The system flags the event.
The operator assesses it.
That changes monitoring from:
Watch everything → Hopefully notice something
to:
Detect → Alert → Verify → Assess
AI Can Also Create Problems
More alerts aren't automatically better.
A poorly configured system generating hundreds of irrelevant notifications can make operators less effective, not more.
Eventually, everything becomes noise.
AI therefore needs to be configured around the actual environment.
A person standing still for five minutes might be unusual outside a closed warehouse at 02:00.
The same behaviour outside a restaurant at 19:00 is completely normal.
Context matters.

Humans Still Make the Decision
AI can identify behaviour.
It cannot reliably understand every circumstance surrounding it.
Security still requires human judgement.
Is the activity actually suspicious?
Does it require intervention?
Is there other information that changes the assessment?
AI should make skilled operators more capable — not remove them from the decision.
The Cerberus Perspective
We don't see AI as replacing security professionals.
We see it as changing what those professionals are capable of monitoring.
The future isn't:
Human vs AI.
It's:
Human judgement amplified by technology.
AI shouldn't replace the operator.
It should help the operator see what they might otherwise miss.
